Nominations close at 5.00pm (GMT) on Monday 15 December 2025.
The BGTW Board is elected annually; Board members meet monthly (in person or over Zoom) and conduct the business of the BGTW, organising events and managing priorities for the organisation. All members elected to a Board role will become a Company Director of the British Guild of Travel Writers Limited for a period of their tenure (one year, unless re-elected) from the 1st February 2026 until the 31st January 2027. This will look good on your CV and the BGTW has D&O insurance to cover all directors. Certain non-executive roles, not requiring a Director appointment, are also available. These will be appointed after the Board is elected.
If you are eligible to stand for election (please refer to the rules on the nomination form for eligibility), you will need to seek the nominations of two full member BGTW colleagues. If we receive more nominations than there are places available, an election will need to be held in January. If not, then the nominees will take up their positions unopposed on Sunday 1 February 2026.
The following positions are available for election:
1 Chair;
1 Vice-Chair;
4 Ordinary Directors;
2 Associate Representatives;
If you would like to seek nomination for a Board position, please get in touch with two full members who are willing to support your nomination. For the two associate representative positions, you will need to be nominated by two associate members.
Once you have your two nominees and their email addresses, please complete the online form that needs to include your 250-word manifesto outlining why you would like to be nominated. This form needs to be submitted by 5.00pm (GMT) on Monday 15 December 2025.
Considering becoming Chair or Vice-Chair?
Members are eligible to stand for the position of Chair if they have been a full member for three years and for the position of Vice-Chair if they have been a full member for two years. The Chair must have served a minimum of one year as a Board member in the previous five years. Both roles assume certain legal and financial responsibilities for the BGTW’s operation and must be well versed in its Articles and Rules & Regulations once elected. The Vice Chair can also be assigned a portfolio or non-executive role (from the list below), as agreed at the first meeting of the new Board in February 2026.
Thinking of becoming a Board Director?
If you have been a full member for more than one year, you are eligible to stand as an ordinary Director on the Board. The BGTW thrives on fresh ideas and enthusiasm and needs a dynamic, active and contributing Board to run its business – we encourage and welcome as many members as possible to come forward to contribute. Directors will take on one (or, in certain cases, potentially two) of the proposed portfolios listed below (exact roles are finalised post-election) and work closely with all other members of the Board as a team.
If you are interested in a particular portfolio please make this known in your manifesto; however, be aware the final decision and designation of the portfolios is determined by agreement at the first meeting of the new Board in February 2026; any further/missing roles are designated by co-opting members to the Board (or non-executive positions) as per the BGTW Articles.
Possible Directorship roles may include (this is a non-exhaustive list, with final roles to be confirmed by the new board): AGM Director; Awards Director; Events Director; Membership Director; Partnerships and Conventions Director; PR & Communications Director; Gala Dinner Director; Sustainability & Better World Director; Finance Director; Publications Director.
Possible non-executive roles include (this is a non-exhaustive list, with final roles to be confirmed by the new board): Members’ Benefits Liaison, Partnerships Assistant or Social Media Coordinators – these additional roles will be defined by the new Board following elections, but please share expressions of interest for providing any off-board support with charlotte.copeman@bgtw.org.
If you have any questions about being on the Board and what’s involved with the specific roles, please feel free to email the relevant Director from the current Board and they’ll be happy to help.
If you have any questions about the election process, please get in touch with the Scrutineer, Charlotte Copeman.
