Hello Guildies,

I hope everyone’s well and has had a productive week.

A little cautionary tale for you! Considering that I’m already firmly of the belief that the Gallaghers have been having cosy Sunday lunches for years, while pretending that they’re feuding, simply so that they could stage an epic (and outrageously lucrative) comeback, you’d think that I’d be a bit sniffy about any chance to get my hands on those coveted concert tickets. But no, last year I spent almost entire morning waiting patiently for the rainbow ball of death on my screen to stop spinning and allow me to proceed to checkout with the two tickets in my bag … only to have the whole thing collapse and shunt me back to position 327497753246670 in the queue. Cue massive meltdown.

Fast forward to 2025, and a friend on Instagram advertised that he was no longer able to make the September 27 date and was looking to sell. I jumped into his messages; he said they were still available and gave me his cousin’s bank details. Fortunately, I had to head to dinner before I had time to make the transfer, but came back to some very out-of-character messages: “Still want them?” “Hello?” “You want them or not?” “Use Revolut, don’t use your bank.”

Suffice to say, I had red flags dancing in front of my eyes by now, so I stopped responding. A few days later, my friend messaged to say his Instagram had been hacked and he’d only just regained access to his account after days of frustration with Meta and several of his friends having actually transferred money for the imaginary tickets.

Sadly, incidents like these appear to be on the rise, not only with fun things such as events, but also with things that appeal to people’s good nature, such as fundraisers and appeals. My mum even had a text message from ‘me’ asking for money … fortunately she was savvy enough to clock ‘my’ unusual tone and ask ‘me’ a trick question. Moral of the story – be careful. Goodness knows most of us in this industry earn little enough as it is!

Have a safe and happy weekend.

Sarah

Dan is on leave recovering from surgery, so please don’t email him for the time being. He will follow up with members to whom he owes emails about Better World and other matters after September 22.

If it’s anything urgent, please direct queries to Charlotte or to another Board member.

We’re sure you’ll all join us in wishing Dan a speedy recovery.

Gala Award Dinner Sponsors – We’d love your engagement on social media

Over the coming weeks, you’ll start seeing announcements of the sponsors for the Gala Awards Dinner on FacebookInstagramX and LinkedIn. The whole evening is possible thanks to these partnerships; not only do the sponsors cover the cash prizes for the 18 MEA Award Winners, but without their financial support, the evening wouldn’t be possible. Sans sponsors, Gala tickets would cost £340pp to break even, so the £65 and £95 members’ tickets are thanks to these significant sponsorship subsidies.

We’d really value members showing their appreciation wherever possible with a like, share, or comment on these social media posts – it all helps in ensuring we can continue to run the event in future years. We’ve already sold half of the Gala Awards tickets, so please do keep spreading the word with your contacts.

If you haven’t secured yours yet, please order through this link using the password 202565 to access the discounted members’ tickets.

London Wetland Centre outing

It sounds like yesterday was a great success! Thank you to those of you who made it, and big thanks to Russell for suggesting and facilitating it.

Because the Tube strike made attendance difficult for some interested members, a follow up visit has been suggested for Spring, so watch this space.
