Hi everyone,
I hope you’ve all had a great week. I’m in France, where the weather hasn’t quite been playing the game I’d like it to play, but the brocante finds have been superb, and I’ve been having a lovely time.
A very sincere ‘thank you’ to a number of you who have been in contact with direct messages this week. As I’m sure many of you know, writing – anything! – can sometimes feel like shouting into a void, and being involved in any organisation can often feel like a thankless task where the only comms are critical ones. I, for one, really appreciate how many lovely, warm-natured and generous people are a part of the Guild – and I’m sure many of you do, too.
Have a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend!
Sarah
BGTW Algarve Convention Update
Thank you to all members who applied for the small group, gourmet trip to the Algarve in September. Places have been allocated, and all interested members should have been informed. Details regarding the November trip (with a walking/hiking focus) will be shared as soon as confirmed.
Membership Renewal/ Audit
Many thanks to everyone who has already completed an audit for Membership renewal, and to those of you who have been in contact to let us know what your plans are for the coming year.
For anyone who’s not got around to doing this yet – just a reminder that the due date is September 7th.
The link is here.
Please also be reminded that renewing your membership means agreeing to abide by the BGTW’s Code of Conduct.
ITAs – it’s time to vote! – a message from Stuart Render, Awards Director
Thank you to everyone who has cast their votes for the BGTW International Tourism Awards. There are some remarkable tourism projects on the list this year. Your vote could really make a difference to which projects win. To vote, go to the BGTW website, log on as a member, then go to the ITA page. The closing date for voting is midnight on 31 August.
AITO Awards Reminder
Many thanks to member Natasha Blair, for the reminder that AITO Travel Writer of the Year Awards entries are closing on August 31st.
London Wetlands Visit – EOI
Our ever-dynamic Russell Maddicks has visited the London Wetlands Centre in Barnes, and spoken with them about the possibility of a Guild visit. The outing would likely be times for the middle of the day, to coincide with the otter feeding, and we envisage some wildlife photography tips from some of our photographer members. The Wetlands Centre would like some social output from the trip; any inclusion in articles would be even better.
If interested, please let me know so that we can get a steer on potential numbers.
Some congratulations
Three cheers for Daniel Stables, whose book, Fiesta, was published last week. It was great to see that some Guild members were in attendance at some of his launch events and we wish the book every success, Dan!
